Nida-Core Application & Technical Information

(The following material is drawn from Nida-Core product literature and is provided strictly for your information.)

Nida-Core is an extruded polypropylene honeycomb. Nida-Core's products combine an aerospace technology (honeycomb) with a standard material polypropylene, and an economical manufacturing process--extrusion. Nida-Core honeycomb materials offer the following properties:

Mechanical strength & rigidity
Nida-Core cells are solid with each other along their whole length, affording the unit excellent compressive strength and good shear strength.

• Nida-Core maintains the required rigidity with a substantial reduction in weight.
• The non-woven polyester scrim, thermo-fused to the cells, offers superior bond and peel strengths.

Water, corrosion, chemical resistance
• Nida-Core has excellent characteristics of resistance to water, to corrosion, to bacteria, and to most chemical products.

•Thousands of boats are built every year using Nida-Core as a strong and rot-prooof core.

Superior insulation
• Nida-Core is a great heat insulator, with a R factor of 3.3, up to 5.5 for foam-filled Nida-Core.

• Nida-Core also provides superior sound deadening properties.

Easy to use
• The unique properties of extruded polypropylene honeycomb allows superior conformability.

•Nida-Core products are ideal for a very wide variety of facings, whether conventional like wood, laminates, metals...or more innovative like fiber glass reinforced thermoplastics or technical textile

•Implementation is easy: laminating, gluing, welding or simple cutting.

Impact and fatigue resistant
• Nida-Core polypropylene's toughness provides excellent impact properties.
• Polypropylene's resiliency, combined with Nida-Core's outstanding bonding properties, results in a higher fatigue resistance.

Environmentally Friendly
Plastic Honeycomb materials contribute in the fight against noise through their structure. They are rot-proof and corrosion-proof. Nida-Core honeycomb materials are currently used to transform flows which are initially turbulent into laminar flows. And Nida-Core's plastic materials are recyclable.

Nida-Core H8-PP Polypropylene Honeycomb Specifications

Nida-Core H8-PP is a true hexagonal cell honeycomb extruded from polypropylene. To facilitate use with adhesives and laminating resins, a non-woven polyester scrim has been thermo-fused to both sides of the core. To prevent filling the cells with resin, a polypropylene barrier film is bonded under the scrim. For thermal fusing to polypropylene matrix skins the core can be supplied without scrim and film. While Nida-Core, uniquely, will conform to very compound contours with moderate pressure or vacuum, it is also available scored on 2" centers for open contact mold lamination. Color is clear translucent although it may be tinted on special order.
