Introducing Buck Woodcraft's
New
Portable Fish Cleaning
Stations
Do-It-Yourself Kits Or
Pre-Assembled
Let's
face it: Cool though it may be, a big, fancy, permanently installed fish
cleaning table isn't what everybody needs -- at least not all of the time.
Sometimes you need a practical fish cleaning station that can go where the
fishing is -- something that can do the job without taking up a bunch of space
or weighing a ton or costing a ton of money.
Okay, here you go. We're now
offering two smaller fish cleaning station designs -- one that's portable enough
go pretty much anywhere, and another that combines good portability with a
larger cutting surface to handle the whoppers you're always hauling in. Both
stations are made from 1/2" thick King Starboard and put together with
top-quality stainless steel fasteners. And you can buy either one fully
assembled or as a money-saving kit. For more about your savings,

-
1/2" thick King Starboard components,
precision-cut on our CNC router...
-
Backsplash and side rails dadoed (notched
out) with slots that interlock with the cutting surface, making
for sturdier construction...
-
Each model tilts slightly forward when
placed on a flat surface, so stuff drains away from you...
-
Side rails include notches that can hook over the
edges of outdoor table tops, wide boat gunwales etc. for
additional stability. Plus, "The Little Guy" is set up to
mount on a standard 5-gallon bucket for a higher cutting platform.
-
Order as a money-saving kit that includes
all pre-cut Starboard components and stainless steel fasteners...
-
Or buy either fish cleaning station already
assembled and ready to use.

money savings
Heck, if I really want to save money,
why shouldn't I just use your fish cleaning station design and build it myself
from scratch?
It's true that you can get
all the pieces you need for, as an example, The Little Guy (24"x14" OD) fish
cleaning station out of a 2'x2' piece of 1/2" thick King Starboard -- which
amounts to 4 sq. ft. Just cut you a piece that measures about 23" x 13.5", and
cut the blanks for your backsplash and side rails out of what's left. Once you
get those cut, you'll still have a piece that measures about 24"L x 4"W left
over for other projects.
So far, it looks like a piece of cake.
The 1/2" thick Starboard we sell
goes for $14.70 per square foot, not dirt-cheap but pretty much competitive with
other online purveyors of this material -- and a good bit less than you'd
typically pay at a walk-in retail "marine" store.
Let's see...a 4 sq. ft. piece of 1/2" Starboard will set you
back $58.80. Plus you'll need 10 good quality stainless steel truss-head screws,
size #8. Plus some cheap 1/4" plywood you'll use to make router
templates for the cutting surface, backsplash and side rails (and of course
you'll need the router itself and a couple of bits). Plus a table saw with a set
of dado blades, if you want to exactly duplicate the notched-out rail and
backsplash components. Plus your time.
So, figure $58.50 for the piece of Starboard you'll need, plus
all the other stuff listed above.
Then ask yourself if it
might not make more sense to just buy our
ready-to-assemble Little Guy kit for $44.95 (or if you really feel
like splurging, go for the fully assembled, super-deluxe, ready-to-cut-fish
version for just $69.95).
How can we sell the complete kit for
less than you'd pay for the Starboard material alone? Simple: We
precision-cut the parts for our fish cleaning stations on our CNC router, with
virtually no wasted material.
Plus, we can produce all the components for, say, a dozen tables a lot
faster and more accurately than anyone could make the parts for just one
unit using traditional methods -- so there's very little manual labor involved in
getting kits ready to ship.
I guess you might call it the magic of modern technology. But what it really comes down to is value -- you get
very good quality
at a very affordable price (and isn't that a refreshing concept). Okay,
if you've gotten this far, you must be really bored. Or maybe I'm a really
fascinating writer. Or maybe not. Anyway, thanks much for reading.
