Here's a little-known factoid:
Worldwide, over half the PVC made each year is used in construction. As a
building material PVC is cheap, durable and easy to assemble. But, hey,
it's not like the stuff only goes into water pipes and
wallboard -- in fact, mil-spec PVC also finds its way into space shuttles
and naval ships. PVC foam is an ideal
core material for building a variety of stuff because of its
high bending-stiffness, strength, low weight (about half as much as the
same thickness of King Starboard), and its ability to reduce acoustical
noise. PVC foam is also used as a sandwich core material for the marine
industry, and as stiffeners in boat upholstery -- bolsters and seatbacks
and such.
The rigid PVC foam panels we sell are
durable
and
can be painted, printed, engraved or milled. And it's easy to fabricate
and install these panels using
conventional tools, fasteners and PVC cement.
All that and, guess what? It's also totally rot-proof, highly
resistant to water absorption, won't catch fire and is non-toxic.

Combining King
Starboard drawers and frame with a PVC surround reduced the overall weight of this
custom built-in cabinet without sacrificing strength or resistance to the elements.
We put the carcass together using 1/2" and 3/4" PVC panels, PVC cement and stainless steel screws.
